The core of our solution was a custom-trained machine learning model built using TensorFlow. We curated a dataset of Indian number plates under diverse lighting and angle conditions to ensure robustness and high recognition accuracy.
Through multiple training iterations and hyperparameter tuning, the model became capable of accurately detecting number plates even in noisy environments like truck loading zones.
Once the ANPR cameras captured vehicle images, we used OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to extract license plate numbers. These were instantly logged along with timestamps for entry and exit, allowing for automatic duration tracking of each vehicle’s on-site activity.
This eliminated the need for manual logging and ensured every truck’s journey was recorded with high accuracy and precision.
The backend system was built using Python Flask, allowing us to create lightweight, secure RESTful APIs for:
Logging truck entry/exit events
Fetching vehicle records
Generating duration and performance reports
We used PostgreSQL as the primary data store, supporting complex queries and performance analytics, and enabling the client to evaluate truck turnaround times and identify operational inefficiencies.
Our system now allows the petrochemical company to:
Automatically track all truck movements
Analyze truck time-on-site metrics
Improve gate throughput and reduce congestion
Generate reports for logistics and audit teams
All of this is achieved with minimal human intervention, enabling a more controlled and data-driven logistics workflow.
